Festive Break 2018

This year our last day of term is Friday 21st December and we re-open on Monday 7th January 2019.

It has been a good start to the Academic Year with two new Foundation groups having completed the first two modules.  This year we welcomed Claire Wood as a tutor on the Evening Foundation group.

The first year Diploma students are settling in and grappling with concepts around the Social Contexts module and will be starting to think about Placements at the end of  January/early February. The Placement Database has recently had an overhaul and been updated.

The second Years have started their placements and many are now seeing clients.  Securing and starting placements is always an anxious time and can take a while to settle and find your way round so well done everyone!  We have had a number of new placement providers join us this year as well as the regular providers.  Supervision is also underway for trainees on placement. Thank you to Gill, Kevin, Emma and Lynne for providing excellent supervision.

Third Years  have been very busy on their research projects and we hope to see the results of their hard work in the New Year.  Look out for their blog posts on our website and social media.

We have had some interesting Development Forum topics this year as well as training days and half day workshops. We also held a training day for our trainees across all years at the start of October which turned out really well with some rich and valuable learning taking place.  Thank you to everyone who attended and took part. Also a big thank you to Colin Feltham and Emma Garrard for their presentations. We are always keen to hear feedback on these events.

The library continues to expand as we received donations of books from Colin Feltham’s collection and we installed a stairlift in the building to make the training room more accessible.

Thank you to everyone for their commitment to the Academy S.P.A.C.E.  The latter part of the year was a particularly challenging time for the partnership team due to various events happening in our personal lives. We have tried to keep any disruption to a minimum.

We have appreciated the support and understanding of Associate Lecturers, Supervisors, Placement providers, Trainees and everyone involved in the business. We really value everyone’s contribution to the teaching and learning at S.P.A.C.E

We are looking forward to the New Year and whatever it holds for us  all in 2019.

Merry Everything and a Happy Always
